Many selfies, dirty
faces, bad hair cuts, and life events later, the trauma surrounding Nate’s
birth faded into a discarded “what if” plot line that thankfully never
happened. Luckily (and thanks to modern medicine), the happy times to push the
darkness away and make the most mundane and maddening parts of life precious.
Sometimes, I still
feel a swift punch in the gut thinking that there was a real chance this little
boy never knew what a really, really, really awesome mom I am (he knows, btw,
and chants my name ~7,000,000 times a day to show his adoration). Mostly now, I
get to focus on being a normal mom who posts to Instagram while simultaneously
barking at my kids to eat their dinner.

me and other families the chance to tell our stories and get more funding to
