Sloane was born at 31 weeks, after mom experienced hand,
foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and then PPROM on Sept. 3 (Labor Day!). Sloane
was born the next day via emergency csection and spent 46 days in the NICU. She
weighed nearly 4 lbs at birth and was the biggest Jolly baby, but despite
weighing more than brother and sister at birth, Sloane experienced significant
respiratory issues in her first few weeks in the NICU, along with an infection
from the HFMD enterovirus that passed through April's placenta. Sloane received
surfactant and lots of kangaroo care to address her respiratory concerns, and
after 2 unsuccessful attempts, was eventually weaned off oxygen. Today, she is
9 weeks old, having just passed her original due date. She is now thriving and
growing at home with the rest of the family.
